Memories & Moments - A Jewelry Collection Inspired by Life Stories

As an artist, I am constantly trying to find meaningful ways to connect with customers by sharing sources of inspiration and stories/symbolism that may resonate. Recently, I lost my dad. He lived a long, full life, but a piece of me is missing. Going through pictures and sharing family stories with family has been so healing and a source of peace. Here are a few of my stories and how they inspired the pieces in this collection.

The Mountains Are Calling

This may be my favorite photo from the bins of photos that I recently went through! The scenery, sense of adventure, and simplicity of the moment of being in the snowy Rocky Mountains (in shorts), is nothing short of delightful! I am a Colorado native, and this photo is going to be framed in our home.

My dad lived in Denver for some of his childhood years, then met my mom in the Midwest. In the 60's, they decided to move to the beautiful Rocky Mountains by other family members and make Colorado their home. We have so many fond memories of exploring and adventuring!

This photo was taken in Muir Woods, just north of San Francisco. It was our second time visiting this magical place, and I am certain unicorns are hiding in that forest. We love hiking and spending time in nature. In fact, the first love note my husband ever wrote to me was on a piece of birch bark peeled off a fallen tree. The birch bark

The birch bark metal discs are hand-stamped with a random birch bark pattern.

Wherever I go, I am drawn to gardens and landscapes. One of my favorite spring and summer hobbies is gardening. Collecting fresh cut flowers and putting them in a canning jar is a favorite centerpiece or gift for a friend. This photo of me was taken in our backyard in Denver.

Pieces of the Past

Love Lasting a Lifetime

Pieces of the Past

This photo is of my paternal grandmother (left) and her two brothers. We are blessed to keep in touch with their children and grandchildren, and share an heirloom baptismal dress that each of these siblings wore. The pieces designed with this photo use little bits and pieces of vintage findings, pieced together to create something really special.

I am the grateful steward of many family photos and memorabilia from generations past, and have worked to organize, research, and scan them to be shared digitally.  Like the roots of a tree - I felt so grounded during the process of exploring these photos. My grandmother was Norwegian, and my grandfather Dutch. There were many Ole and Lena jokes growing up! Their love was loyal, and they prioritized getting together with their many siblings and families, creating strong connections. I remember going to church with my grandparents in Colorado, hoping my grandpa had a mint to share! These vintage pendants remind me of the stained glass windows.

One of my great grandmas lived in Pella, IA, known for its strong Dutch community and Tulip Time, the tulip festival every May. She was a centenarian and lived to be 104. There are photos of her visiting Colorado, carrying my brother in a hiking pack, at about 97 years of age.  Four and five generations later, we still remember her strength and care for family. The letters we've found often mention how much she prayed for her children.

Sweet Mary

To know my Aunt Mary is to love her. She sparkles everywhere she goes, in the simplest ways. Her positivity, grace, and occasional dry sense of humor are a beautiful combination. Last Valentine's Day, I helped my dad write Valentine's Day cards, and he addressed her card, 'Sweet, Sweet Mary."

Adventures

My dad and uncle were always up for adventures. They lived on a farm in the early years,  then moved around the Midwest and west coast with my grandpa's job in the farm implement industry. The stories and shenanigans will be etched in our hearts for years to come!
